Privacy Policy
The short version
- We collect what we need to run dancerly: your account details and what you and your team put in it — rehearsal videos, notes, and the like.
- Your videos are visible only to the members of the project they’re in (and to anyone you send a share link to).
- We don’t sell your data, show ads, or use third-party trackers. We don’t use facial recognition, and we don’t train AI on your videos.
- Your data is stored in Seoul, South Korea. Some service providers that help us run dancerly are in the United States.
- You can see, fix, download, or delete your data. Email us and we’ll help.
1. Who we are
dancerly is operated by the operator of dancerly (“we”, “us”), who is the controller of the personal information described here and the person responsible for privacy (Chief Privacy Officer under Korean law). You can reach us at our contact address. This policy applies to the dancerly website, app, and related services.
Where dancerly is used by a team, school, or studio, the project owner decides who is in the project and what is uploaded. For questions about a specific team’s use, you can also contact that project’s owner.
2. What we collect
| Category | What it includes | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Email address, password (stored only as a secure hash by our sign-in provider), display name, optional profile photo, language and display preferences, onboarding progress, how you found us (for example, a share link) | You |
| Rehearsal videos | Videos and their audio that you upload, which may show the faces, bodies, and voices of you and others; thumbnails we make from them; file names; tempo and count settings | You and your teammates |
| Feedback and team content | Notes, time ranges, sketches, replies, 👍 reactions, @mentions, private notes, video requests, calendar events, pages, count sheets, project names and images, invite links | You and your teammates |
| Activity | Which videos you’ve opened, notifications and whether you’ve read them, AI summaries you create and your feedback on them, share links and calendar feed links you create | Generated as you use dancerly |
| Technical | IP address, browser and device type, and request logs kept by our hosting providers for security and reliability | Your browser |
We don’t collect payment details (dancerly is free during early access), precise location, or your contacts. We don’t use facial recognition or create biometric identifiers from videos.
3. How we use it, and why
| Purpose | Legal basis (GDPR) |
|---|---|
| Create and secure your account, sign you in, and provide dancerly’s features — storing and playing videos, notes, notifications, requests, calendars | Performing our contract with you |
| Create AI summaries when you or a teammate asks for one | Performing our contract with you |
| Send essential service messages, such as sign-in codes, password resets, and changes to our terms | Performing our contract; legal obligation |
| Keep dancerly safe — prevent abuse, fraud, and security incidents — and fix problems | Legitimate interests |
| Understand how features are used, in aggregate, to improve dancerly | Legitimate interests |
| Comply with law and respond to lawful requests | Legal obligation |
Under Korean law, we process personal information that is necessary to perform our contract with you, and we ask for your separate consent for anything beyond that. If we ever want to use your information for a new purpose, we’ll ask first where the law requires it.
4. Who can see your content
- Project members can see the videos and team notes in projects they belong to.
- Private notes are visible only to the person who wrote them and the person they’re for.
- Share links: anyone with a link you create can watch that one video and its team notes (never private notes), without an account, until you turn the link off.
- Calendar feed links: anyone with your feed link can see the events it includes.
- AI summaries you create are yours unless you share them with the project.
- We access your content only to run and support the Service, keep it secure, or comply with law — for example, when you ask for help or when we must investigate abuse.
5. Service providers and transfers abroad
We use these providers to run dancerly. They process data only on our instructions and under contracts that require them to protect it. Data is sent over encrypted connections while you use the Service.
| Provider (country) | What they do | Data involved | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Supabase, Inc. (USA; our data is stored in its Seoul, South Korea region) | Database, sign-in, file storage for videos and images, sign-in emails | All categories in section 2 | Until deleted as described in section 7 |
| Vercel, Inc. (USA; global network) | Hosting and delivering the website and app | Technical data; content passing through as you use the app | Request logs for a limited period |
| Anthropic, PBC (USA) | The AI model behind “Summary by AI” | The text of the notes being summarized, names of authors and mentioned people, video and project titles — never videos | Processed to produce the summary; kept by the provider only for a limited period for safety and abuse monitoring, and not used to train its models |
| Google LLC (USA) — Google Fonts | Serving the fonts on our home page | IP address and browser details when the page loads | Under Google’s own policy |
Transfers abroad. Using dancerly involves sending the data above to these providers in the United States, at the time you use the related feature, over an encrypted network. Where required (for example, for people in the EU, UK, or Korea), we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the providers’ data processing agreements and Standard Contractual Clauses. Data shared with Supabase and Vercel is necessary to provide dancerly at all. You can avoid sending note text to Anthropic by not using AI summaries.
We may also disclose information if required by law or a valid legal order, to protect someone’s safety, or as part of a merger or sale of the Service — in which case we’ll tell you in advance and you can delete your account.
6. What we don’t do
- We don’t sell personal information, and we don’t “share” it for cross-context behavioral advertising (as those terms are used in California law).
- We don’t show ads or use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
- We don’t train AI models on your videos or let our AI provider do so.
- We don’t make decisions about you based solely on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects.
7. How long we keep data
- Account details: for as long as you have an account.
- Videos and team content: until you delete them, or the project owner deletes the project. Content you added to a project stays there after you leave, unless you delete it before leaving.
- When you delete your account (Settings → Account → Delete account), we immediately delete your profile, photo, sign-in, the takes you uploaded and their files, your notes, replies, reactions, AI summaries, share links, and calendar links — including in projects you shared with others. For projects you manage, you choose to hand them over or delete them. Calendar events, pages, video requests, and groups you set up in projects that continue stay with the team, without your name. Copies may remain in backups for up to 30 days before they’re overwritten.
- Why people leave: if you tell us when deleting your account, we keep your answer without your name or email.
- Logs are kept for a limited period for security. Where a law requires us to keep certain records for longer (for example, access logs for 3 months under Korea’s Protection of Communications Secrets Act), we keep only those records, only for that period.
When data is deleted, electronic files are erased so they can’t be restored, and any printed records are shredded.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have the right to:
- access your personal information and get a copy, including in a portable format;
- correct information that’s wrong;
- delete your information or your account;
- restrict or object to certain processing, and withdraw consent where we rely on it;
- not be discriminated against for exercising your rights; and
- complain to a data protection authority (see section 13).
You can edit your name and photo, delete your videos and notes, download your data, and delete your account directly in the app (Settings → Account). For anything else, email us from the address on your account. A parent, guardian, or authorized agent may also make a request for you, with proof of authority. We may need to verify your identity. We respond within 10 days, and in any case within the time your local law allows; if we can’t meet a request, we’ll explain why.
9. Children and minors
dancerly isn’t for children under 14, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If we learn that a child under 14 has created an account, we’ll delete it. If you believe this has happened, please contact us.
Dance teams often include teenagers, and rehearsal videos may show minors. Project owners and uploaders are responsible for getting any consent required from minors and their parents or guardians before uploading videos of them (see our Terms). A parent or guardian can ask us to remove a video showing their child.
10. Security
- All connections are encrypted (HTTPS/TLS). Passwords are stored only as secure hashes.
- Access rules in our database ensure people can only see projects they belong to. Videos are kept in private storage and played through links that expire.
- Access to systems is limited to what’s needed to run the Service, and our providers keep their data centers physically secured.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal information, we’ll notify you and the authorities as the law requires.
11. Cookies and local storage
We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies. We use your browser’s local storage only for things the Service needs or you choose: keeping you signed in, your language, and display preferences (such as mirror mode or a hidden checklist). You can clear it in your browser settings; you’ll be signed out. Our home page loads fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when the page loads.
12. Changes to this policy
We’ll post any update here with its effective date and tell you in the app or by email at least 7 days before it takes effect — or at least 30 days before, if the change affects your rights significantly. Where the law requires your consent for a change, we’ll ask for it.
13. Contact and complaints
Controller and Chief Privacy Officer: the operator of dancerly
Email: contact address coming soon
If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can complain to your local data protection authority — in the EU, the authority in your country; in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office; in Korea, the bodies listed in the Korean version of this policy (such as the Personal Information Infringement Report Center, 118).
This policy is available in English and Korean. If the two differ, the Korean version applies to users in Korea and the English version applies to everyone else, unless local law says otherwise.
